Alternatives to prevent tuberculosis -
Another possible regimen for treatment of latent TB is daily rifampin alone for 4 months, which may be useful in persons intolerant to isoniazid or those found to be tuberculin-positive after exposure to patients with organisms resistant to isoniazid. The combination of rifampin and pyrazinamide for 2 months, which formerly was used as an alternative to isoniazid treatment of latent infection, should not be given because of its association with potentially lethal hepatotoxicity.
