After the Manchurian incident, Japan blew up a train with an ally (chinese warlord) in it because they were afraid he was going to switch sides to the Nationalists rather than the Chinese. I don't understand this because it seems contradictory to me, why wouldn't they want him on their side? If you could please explain who the Nationalists were in your answer it might further my understanding.
