Assignment Task: Advocacy Reflection Paper
In this reflection paper, please discuss one advocacy action that you think is important for positive social change. This advocacy action may be at the city state or federal level. Examples of advocacy actions might include testifying in court, advocating for services, advocating for expanded eligibility for services, proposing a new policy, testifying before City Commission or legislature, writing a letter to the editor, writing an article for a magazine/journal, etc. The reflection paper is due by the end of September and must be submitted to Dropbox (e-learning site). In your paper, please reflect on the following areas: What was the client need that spurred your advocacy action? What social work values/principles in the NASW Code of Ethics are relevant to your advocacy? What preparation (e.g., consultation, research, meeting, etc.) would be necessary to prepare for your advocacy action? Describe the advocacy action in terms of the steps that you might follow. Describe the desired outcome / desired result of your actions. (include intended and possible unintended outcomes.)
