YouTube video: 8-year-old caught on video trying to rob store
A risk factor can be defined as something that increases menacing activity or susceptibility. The PowerPoint breaks down risk factors into two categories, individual risk factors, and family risk factors. The PowerPoint addresses that individual risk factors can be linked to low intelligence and attainment, low empathy, impulsiveness, and poor social cognitive skills. While family risk factors can link to family criminality, large family size, poor parental supervision, child abuse, and broken home. The development of risk factors has a lot to do with your everyday life, more importantly, your personal traits, characteristics of your environment, or conditions of your family, household, and school that will most likely influence you in engaging in delinquency. Developmental crime prevention approaches these risk factors in order to prevent the development of potential crime in individuals. Furthermore, I conclude that the risk factors for this 8-year-old boy are poor parental supervision, child abuse, delinquency in his family or community, and low intelligence. I feel like parents should be secretive about owning weapons towards their kids until they are old enough to understand the power of a weapon. Also, maybe the mom or other family member abused the child physically due to his behavior but perhaps that makes the 8-year-old boy have a more rebellious behavior. I think the child has heard or watched people close to him talk about crime or maybe he has seen people commit crimes in his neighborhood. The 8-year-old's parents should be held responsible for his action. They should never keep their guards down with a weapon and need to be more secure with a gun. They also need to see who the 8-year-old boy is hanging out with. Close friends might be affecting the way he is acting or what he is watching to be learning these types of menacing behaviors.
