Assignment task: With advances in technologies and continuous chances in nursing practices based on evidence, nursing organizations play a huge role in keeping nurses up to date on these current changes. The main purpose of most professional nursing organizations is to educate their nurses (McCorkle et al., 2023). Another purpose of professional nursing organizations is to readily prepare their members for board governing services (McCorkle et al., 2023). While there are many professional nursing organizations out there, studies indicate that very few nursing organizations prepare their members for the nursing board and only 4 % of seats on the nursing board are nurses themselves (McCorkle et al., 2023).
The Emergency Nurse's Association is a professional organization established in 1991 to help nurses advance their careers and nursing practices. | have personally been a member for 5 years and have attended two ENA conventions and will be attending this year's convention in Las Vegas. The organization supports nurses on current evidence- based practices, disburses scholarships, and allows for furthering education and certifications. The certifications offered are emergency department specific such as Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC). The purpose of these specific courses are for emergency room nurses to be well prepared and to be able to be the lead nurse on level one and level two traumas. ENPC has saved me many times when caring for children who have suffered trauma.
Nursing organizations are a fantastic way to stay up to date on current and best practices. They are available to all nurses and are encouraged by many organizations and nursing educators. There is no such thing as being too prepared, or too well educated on current nursing practices. It is ultimately up to the individual nurse to take charge of their education and preparedness for their practice.
