Problem:
The aids epidemic showed significant resemblance of a warzone. This epidemic severely affected those in the LGTBQ community, intravenous drug users, as well as hemophiliacs. The disease was spreading very quickly, and nobody was sure of why this was happening. Due to slow response to this spreading disease and insufficient knowledge about it, it made its way around so quickly. This pandemic caused a big surge in research during this time. Scientists were quite eager to figure out more about this disease and its agent, HIV, which led to breakthroughs in virology and immunology. Individuals of the LGBTQ community dealt with many issues during this period. Many of them had to deal with rejection from friends and family due to misinformation pertaining to the disease. AIDS prompted political mobilization within the LGBTQ community. People demanded better health care policies, protection from being discriminated against, and more funding for research on this disastrous disease. Overall, the AIDS pandemic brought great hardship for many people globally, but it catalyzed activism, resilience, and unity. LGBTQ Activists paved the way for advancements in healthcare, civil rights, and acceptance from the community.
