adenylate cyclase in the liver cell

Adenylate cyclase  in  the liver cell membrane

Glucagon activates adenylate cyclase  in  the liver cell membrane and thus turns on glycogenolysis and reduces glycogenesis. Insulin increases glycogenesis in  the liver by  increasing the activity of glycogen synthase. The glucagon:  insulin ratio appears to  be  more  important than the  absolute  level of  either  hormone  since  glycogen metabolism  is strongly influenced by the predominsnt hormone.
