As a nurse, I advocate that the extent of government involvement be expanded in determining policies for schools. Currently, schools in my state should be able to decide whether vending machines should stock snacks and soft drinks. They also can decide on the specific food item to be stocked. As the prevalence of childhood obesity has reached unacceptable levels, the state legislature should determine school policy. The State can ban vending machines that dispense sugary drinks and junk foods when it deems fit. The best course to address the issue of childhood obesity is by embracing the power of legislation to communicate to the legislatures. Childhood obesity may affect the body in a variety of ways. Obese children are more likely to have high blood pressure and cholesterol, both of which are risk factors for heart disease. Glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes are all at an increased risk. Obesity in children and adolescents is a severe problem in the United States, putting their health at risk. Obesity is still prevalent among children
