Problem 1: Address US foreign policy position and how it changed or did not change between the beginning of the Revolution and the establishment of Haiti (1791-1804). What accounts for these changes?
Problem 2: Why were these the US policies? How does the US government's reaction to the Haitian Revolution reflect its position on the issue of slavery and its diplomatic relationship with France, Britain, etc.? (For example, why would Jefferson not recognize the government of Haiti, embargo trade etc?)
Problem 3: In your opinion, how should the US have diplomatically related to Haiti? Given the context you understand from the period, would you have supported or denied acknowledgement to the new country? Why? Support this with evidence from your findings.
