Adding magnesium ribbon (about .5g) in a solvent of 100mL of HCl acid in a polysterne cup as my calorimeter. my question is why and how would my calculated anthalpy of reaction be inaccurate if:

1) some heat were transferred to the air or styrofoam cup

2) the surface of the magnessium ribbon had a coating of MgO.
