Assignment Task: Research Methods
Write a research proposal which must include a section on each of the following tasks (the marking criteria and distribution of marks are provided):
Title - The adaptation of Metro Express light rail transportation system in Mauritius by the public

Background and Rationale You must provide a clear background of your proposed research.
You must explain how you came to be interested in the subject and provide a summary of your knowledge of the existing literature in this area.
It is very crucial for you to make a convincing case on how your research work would be novel and would develop valuable and interesting knowledge.
Research Question: This section needs you to clearly formulate your research question(s).
You should have a clear and sufficiently well-defined answerable question. However, the appropriate time frame must guide you in developing the correct the question(s).
You can provide the main research question and its corresponding sub-research questions and supplement with the hypotheses to be tested.
Theoretical/Conceptual Framework: In this section you need to clarify on the theoretical/conceptual framework with appropriate justification.
You should clearly establish your knowledge of the research problem and your understanding of the theoretical and research issues related to your research question and their relevance and usefulness to your research work.
Your research proposal must provide an updated list of references that are related to the relevant literature review.
Methods: This section informs on how you design to tackle your research problem. It must be the blueprint and define the activities required for the accomplishment of your research work and should contain a detailed description of how you aim to proceed with the research.
Demonstration of your knowledge of alternate techniques will be a plus and justify why your chosen methodology is the most appropriate to address your research question(s).
Explain who will be the target audience and explain about the data you will collect; how you will collect it and how you will analyze it.
You need to consider as well about practical issues like (1) If you are intending to undertake fieldwork, where and for how long? (2) Will organizations where you intend to undertake fieldwork wish to give you access (physical, time, documents) to what you need?
Ethical Considerations You will need to consider issues of power and confidentiality. Make sure you read appropriate ethical guidelines and depict if the research work will follow these.
Time Scales For a good research work, it is vital that you map out a reasonable schedule. The schedule will help in monitoring the research work progress.
A Gantt chart will be helpful.
