According to the instructor, a "hemispheric Asian American" view:
Select one:
a. Is a view that allows us to see the Northern hemisphere that includes Japan, Korea, North America, and Europe. Such a view would link together the "civilized" countries in opposition to the "uncivilized" south in the Southern hemisphere. It is beneficial for people in the Northern hemisphere to make such a distinction. Failure to do so would bring about the downfall of the "developed" world and lead to the invasion of Southerners into the North.
b. Would require the discipline to not stray from the dichotomous view that is based on distinctions between Asians and Westerners. Straying from such a view would result in unnecessary conflict of the West wtih Asians trying to gain supremacy as in the movie 300.
c. Would be crazy because it is impossible for many of us to ride a spaceship that would allow us to see North and South America. It would also be ridiculous, because from way up there, the only thing Asian that is visible is the Great Wall of China.
d. would initiate an academic meltdown because it would destroy the important distinctions between Asians, Westerners, Latin Americans, Japanese, and Okinawans.
e. would allow us to get beyond our parochial American-centered perspective and help us understand connections that are not bound by nation-states.
