A study was conducted to determine the impact of social media use on student learning. A total of 103 students taking a first year seminar course for pre-health professional majors participated in this study. There were three sections for each group with each student randomly assigned to one section. Also, three lecturers participated in the study with each one teaching a section of the experimental group and another section of the control group. With the experimental group, Twitter was used for various types of academic and co-curricular discussions. At the end of the semester, the grades scored in the course by the students were recorded.
