A simply supported span of 28 feet must carry a uniform loading that produces a total factored maximum moment of 300 K-ft including the beam weight. The concrete can be 3.5 ksi and the steel is grade 60. You can design the beam as a single reinforced, double reinforced or an isolated ‘T' type beam as far as the architecture is concerned, but the beam width must be 24in.
a. Sketch a shear diagram for this beam
b. If the effective depth was assumed to be 14in, determine the maximum design shear force for the given loading.
c. Again assuming d=14in, determine, or at least show exactly how to determine, the portion (length) of span of the subject beam which theoretically would require no shear reinforcement.
