A refrigerator moves energy from a cold reservoir (the inside of the refrigerator) to a hot reservoir (the kitchen), but some extra energy is required in the form of work done by some outside agent (typically a compressor motor). Just like the efficiency can be used to tell how 'good' an engine is, the Coefficient of Performance can be used to compare refrigerators. If a refrigerator requires 1.37×104 J of work to remove 5.87×104 J of energy from the inside of a refrigerator, what is the coefficient of performance of the refrigerator? How much energy is transferred into the hot reservoir (ie., the kitchen)?
