a question about an organic chemistry lab report. I am synthesizing aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) using salicylic acid, acetic anhydride, and a catalyst. The four catalysts used were pyridine, boron trifluoride etherate, sulfuric acid, and sodium acetate. The sodium acetate serves as a poor catalyst for this rxn and took the longest to react by far. However, some students who heated their rxns got sodium acetate reacting first rather than last. I need to know why, based on this result, temperature can serve as a poor measure of catalyst efficiency
