A passenger sitting in the rear of a bus claims that she was injured as the driver slammed on the breaks, causing a suitcase to come flying towards he from the front of the bus. If you were a judge in this case, how could you rule and why?
According to Newton's 1st law, objects (including suitcases) will continue going in a straight line at a same velocity until an unbalanced force performs on them. Hence, the suitcase could have traveled to the front of the bus, not the back of the bus. The lady is lying.
