A decision support system (DSS) has the capability to model "what-if" scenarios to assist with the decision making process. The best way to model a situation or identify a trend is with a significant amount of data. We all know that the computer is much faster and more accurate with a vast number of computations than the manual labor of humans. Which do you suppose would be the safest way for a company to decide how much to increase its prices on thousands of individual items they sell to generate a 10% increase in its annual revenue? It must also take into consideration how increasing a price on certain items may cause sales to drop and which products are seasonal and most likely to sell in different regions of the country. Do you understand how rewarding or detrimental it could be to a business if they do not have the right tools to help make these types of decisions?
