A copper bar 80 mm by 60 mm in cross-section (k = 370 W/m ºC) is lying in a insulated trough so that the heat transfer from one face both the edges is negligible. It is seen that when a current of 5000A flows through the conductor, the bare face has a fixed temperature of 45 ºC.
If the resistivity of copper is 2*10-8 ?m, evaluate:
i. The maximum temperature that prevails in the bar and its location;
ii. The temperature of the centre of the bar.
