Question: A compound thick cylinder has a bore of 100mm diameter, a common diameter of 200mm and an outside diameter of 300mm. The outer tube is shrunk on to the inside tube, and the radial stress at the common surface owing to shrinkage is 30MN/m2 .

Find the maximum internal pressure the cylinder can receive if the maximum circumferential stress in the outer tube is limited to 110MN/m2 .

Determine also the resulting circumferential stress at the outer radius of the inner tube.
