A 3 phase synchronous generator produces an open circuit

Problem 1:

A 3 Phase synchronous generator produces an open circuit line voltage of 5196V when the DC exciting current is 50 A. The AC terminals are then short circuited and the three line currents are found to be 500 A.

Calculate:

(1) the synchronous reactance per phase

(2) the terminal voltage when three 8 Ohm resistors are connected in Star configuration across the terminals

Problem 2:

A 3 phase, 4 pole cage induction motor is connected to a 400 V, 50Hz, 3 wire supply; the motor windings are connected in star. One of the windings develops an abnormally high impedance of 3 + j1.2 Ohm. ( the other two windings have the same impedance of 0.8 + j1.2 Ohms.

Determine

(a) Determine the magnitude and phase of the currents in each of the windings of impedance 0.8 + j1.2 Ohm

(b) Determine the magnitude and phase of the voltage at the star point of the motor windings, with respect to the star point of the supply.
