1. When the reflected waves meet they interfere with each other. Can you see points of constructive and destructive interference? Describe them.
2. What is the location of the virtual source (also known in optics as the virtual image) of the source; i.e. where do the reflected wavefronts appear to be coming from? Do you see how this is analogous to reflection of light from a mirror? Think about how when you look in the mirror, your virtual image appears to be standing behind the mirror even though the light is reflecting off of the surface of the mirror.
3. Give a brief description of the patterns of destructive and constructive interference referring to the lines you just traced.
4. How does the wavelength affect the inteference?
5. Does the shape of the transmitted waves resemble the point source waves we already have seen?
6. If you increase the slit width to several wavelengths, you will make room for more of these Huygen's "point sources." Make a sketch of this interference pattern indicating regions of constructive and destructive interference. Does this pattern resemble the pattern from the two point sources?
