1 capacitance the

(1)         CAPACITANCE: The value of capacitance depends upon the area of conducting plates, thickness of dielectric material and its permittivity. The frequency of operation of a capacitor depends upon the dielectric type used.

(2)         WORKING VOLTAGE: It is defined as the maximum voltage at which capacitor can operate without failure. The working voltage is usually rated as dc value. Effective ac. working voltage is less than the DC rated voltage. Working voltage decreases with rise in frequency of operation. Working voltage mainly depends upon the dielectric strength of the material used in capacitor

(3)         TEMPREATURE COFFICIENT: It is measured in ppm /0C and indicates change in capacitance due to temperature. it is generally positive.

(4)         VOLTAGE COFFICENT: Voltage coefficient indicates change in value of capacitance with voltage. it is either expressed in percentage or ppm/V.

(5)         TOLERNCE: This is the accuracy to which value of capacitor can be made or selected. Various tolerances are available and they depend upon the type of capacitor.

(6)         LOAD LIFE STABILITY: The change in value of capacitance alters a stated operating time at full load and 700C. The operating time is usually taken as 1000 hours.
