Retinopathy:
Retinopathy is a disease of retina, generally resultant from either diabetes mellitus or alternatively from persistent hypertension (i.e., high blood pressure). There are two kinds of retinopathy.
(1) Diabetic retinopathy is characterized by minute aneurysms (i.e., balloon like swellings) of the capillaries (i.e., tiny blood vessels) in the retina. New abnormal blood vessels that are fragile and bleed readily grow on retinal surface.Haemorrhage into the vitreous humour might take place; fibrous tissues can also grow forward into vitreous humour. Treatment by laser surgery can frequently halt a progress of the condition.
(2) Hypertensive retinopathy is characterized by narrowing of the retinal arteries. Regions of the retina might be destroyed and causes haemorrhage and white deposits might also takes place in the retina. It might even lead to retinal detachment. The remedy is laser treatment.
