The physiological consequence due to deficiency of thyroid hormone is termed to as hypothyroidism. It is manifested by iodine deficiency and goiter, cretinism and myxoedema. Cretinism:

Cretinism is originated in children who are deficient of thyroxine hormone from the time of birth.
