Functioning of Human heart:

Heart is a pumping organ. Heart receives blood from various portions of the body via the veins that open via inferior and superior vena cavae and pulmonary veins. While the right atrium receives deoxygenated blood, the left atrium gets the oxygenated blood from the lungs. Whenever the wall of the atria contract the right and left atria pump the blood into the right and left ventricles correspondingly. Pulmonary trunks occurring from the right ventricle take away the blood to the lungs for oxygenation. The left ventricle provides rise to an aorta, from which oxygenated blood is supplied to the coronary arteries and the complete circulation of the body.

The blood flow among the right atrium and right ventricle is regulated by tricuspid valve. The bicuspid and mitral valve regulates the flow on the left chambers of heart. In the pulmonary trunk, the aorta, back flow of blood is prevented by a set of semilunar valves.
