Plotting an Ogive:
The Ogive is the frequency polygon (that is, line plot) graph of the cumulative frequency or the relative cumulative frequency.
The horizontal axis is marked with the class boundaries and the vertical axis is frequency. All class boundaries are employed; there will be one more class boundary than the number of classes.
The following illustration supposes the class boundaries are in List-1 and the cumulative frequencies are in List-2. You are free to utilize any two lists which you desire, however you must make the suitable adjustments in the instructions whenever you do not use List 1 and List 2.
A) At first enter the class boundaries to List 1. Begin with the lower boundary of first class and end with the upper boundary of last class.
B) Enter the cumulative frequencies to the List 2. Begin with 0 for the initial value as there is nothing less than the primary lower class boundary.
C) Turn off every regular plots: Hit Y= and place the cursor over any equivalent sign that is in inversed video (that is, white on black) by arrowing left and then down whenever essential. Hit enter as the cursor is on the equivalent sign to toggle among displaying the function (that is, equal sign highlighted) and not exhibiting the function (equivalent sign not highlighted).
D) Hit the STATPLOT key (2nd Y=).
E) Choose a plot (generally plot 1) and press enter.
F) Turn the plot on by highlighting the ON and pressing enter.
G) Set the TYPE to LinePlot (that is, 2nd type)
H) Set the XLIST to List 1.
I) Set the YLIST to List 2.
J) Set the MARKER to any of three values.
K) Choose WINDOW.
L) Place the lower class boundary for first class in XMIN.
M) The XMAX value must be the upper class boundary of last class.
N) The Class Width must be stored in the XSCL
O) YMIN must be set to 0.
P) YMAX must be set to the total frequency when employing cumulative frequencies in List 2 and set to 1.00 when employing relative cumulative frequencies in List 2.
Q) YSCL must be set suitably based on YMAX.
R) Press the GRAPH key.Relative Frequencies:
There is no requirement to re-enter the data when you wish to utilize relative cumulative frequencies rather than cumulative frequencies.
The following supposes that the cumulative frequencies are in List 2.
Replace the ### by the net frequency. You cannot place "###" to the calculator.
L2 / ### STORE L2This will change the cumulative frequencies with the relative cumulative frequencies.
To change relative cumulative frequencies with cumulative frequencies, modify the division to multiplication.
L2 * ### STORE L2
