To create a control flow diagram first remove all the data flow arrows from DFD. Events and control items are then added to the diagram. And a vertical bar is also added into the control specification. So control and process specification play important role.

Control Specification

Control specification contains a state transition diagram that is the sequential representation of the behaviour of the system. It also contains process activation table pat represents information contained in the STD in the form of process. It indicates which process will be invoked whenever an event occurs. It is like the manual of the STD.

Process specification

Process specification is used to describe all flow model processes that appear at the final level of analytical modelling. It includes text information in programs defined language, mathematical equations and charts. In other words it holds the algorithm of every process along with descriptive details.
