Introduction to Computer System Engineering
According to the Webster new dictionary the engineering refers to:
The art science of making practical application of the knowledge of pure science such as physics. Chemistry biology etc.
When the engineering tern is combined with the system then it is defined as:
System engineering is the application of engineering to the design development of systems.
Or it can be stated as:
It is an interdisciplinary activity which involves the groups of members from the different backgrounds.
Such group are needed to consider the various wide system design decision. For an example air traffic control ATO system as shown in figure below.
As in the figure above many different engineering disciplines may be involved in system engineering. Sometimes some misunderstandings arise among the various engineers because they use their different terminologies.
System engineering not only concerns and interacts with the application and transactions but also with the many technologies which are used in the system implementation. To build the powerful, efficient and effective computer based systems, the hardware software and many more elements are put together to form whole sole single product of the engineering of the computer based systems. The computer systems engineering can be defined as:
Computer system engineering is seen as the problems solving task. To solve any type of problem the computer system engineering process in initiated in which the major tasks analysis of the various requirements , designing the various components , coding or manufacturing and the unit testing are performed for all the various (software hardware etc.) Of the desired system. And then the last step, the integration testing is performed.
To develop any compute based systems, the required steps are performed one by one. In beginning, it is checked why this new systems are to build and what are the new requirements. After that the required needs of the system are finalised, requirement are known and mentioned and then scope objectives and output in a hierarchical manner. so first the input at the data level is set then processes are set for data acquisition, transaction processing application processing and at last the output is produced as information system design. This complete work of finding the information needs to the determined and achieved system design and architecture is called the computer system engineering.
