Herpes Virus Replication:
Herpes viruses multiply within the nucleus of the infected cells. The sequence of events is explained as follows. The glycoprotein spikes attach to the particular receptors represent on the surface of the host cell. After attachment, the viral envelope fuses through the cell membrane. The nucleocapsid is transported via the cytoplasm to the nucleus. Un-coating takes place and the DNA becomes related with the nucleus. Replication of viral DNA occurs inside the nucleus. The viral capsid proteins are synthesized in the host cell cytoplasm; afterward migrate from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, where capsid assembly takes place and a new viral DNA is inserted and positioned in the inner shell. Viral glycoprotein spikes are processed in golgi complex and incorporated into the inner layer of nuclear membrane from which the viral envelope is obtained. Mature viral particles are transported to the cell surface by membranous vacuoles and discharged. The length of replication cycle differs from 18 to 72 hours based on the virus type. Cells productively infected with herpes viruses usually do not survive.
