Introduction to VSB Transmission

As per to the CCIR-PAL B method of transmission the video bandwidth is set to 5MHz. For transmit video signal in Single side band method, one side band must be filtered. Because video signals are of very high frequency one full side band can't be filtered. Therefore together with one side band other side band is attached. This technique is termed as Vestigial Side Band transmission.

ADVANTAGES

1. Requirement of high band width is reduced.

2. It is easy to filter one portion.

DISADVANTAGE

There is a little loss of power when filtering a portion of side band and also there might be slight phase and amplitude distortion.
