Introduction to Second 10 Faults By Observing Symptoms
1. WINDLESS PICTURE
A. Low power supply output voltage. Weak filter capacitors
B. Defective fly back capacitor that is earthed from the collector of the horizontal output transistor.
C. Capacitor in series along with the horizontal deflection coil might be defective.
D. Partial short in horizontal deflection coil (extremely rare)
2. RINGING
If vertical lines displayed in the picture, it is called as 'Ringing'. It is also termed as 'The picture is in Jail'.
A. Leaky horizontal output transistor
B. Weak L.O.T.
C. Improper value of capacitor is employed for Yoke balancing!
D. Open resistor that is in parallel with the horizontal linearity coil.
3. MIRROR IMAGE
If picture is emerged as interchanging of left and right, it is termed as' Mirror image'.
A. Polarity that reversed in connecting wires of horizontal deflection coil.
4. HORIZONTALSYNC. LOSS
If the picture not appeared and only black slanting lines are displayed or if the picture is displaced from left to right or left to right, this type of effect is termed as 'Horizontal synchronize Loss'
First Adjust H.Hold.
If the slanting lines changing its direction, fault is in AFC stage.
1. Defective AFC diodes
2. Test the path of fly back pulses. Dry soldering may occur.
If the slanting lines do not change its direction fault is in Horizontal oscillator stage.
1. Defective oscillator transistor
2. If IC is employed, check the pin voltages
3. Dry soldering; copper print cut; at last replace the IC, if needed.
5. HORIZONTAL LINE ONLY; SOUND OK
This is because of fault in vertical sweep section.
(Note: with this fault do not operate the TV receiver constantly since, it results in permanent black line in the picture tube. That is why; test the receiver in frequent intervals).
While we touch the vertical size preset along with a screw driver, if the line oscillates up and down or tends to extent... the fault is in vertical oscillator.
A. Defective vertical oscillator transistor, V.Hold, biasing resistors^ and capacitors.
B. Measure pin voltages IfIC are used.
C. Dry soldering; copper print cut.
If the line does not expand or oscillate,
Faults, that is in vertical driver and output stage.
D. TEST the transistors, biasing resistors, capacitors-in these stages.
E. Disconnection of wires to the vertical deflection coil
F. Capacitor in series ALONG with the vertical deflection coil MIGHT get opened.
G. Dry soldering or copper print cut
H. Open vertical deflection coil (rare)
6. INSUFFICIENT HEIGHT; SOUND OK
If raster does not emerge to a specific extent in up and down of the screen, it is termed as 'Insufficient height'. It is also known as 'Cinemascope effect'.
There are 6 types of Fault occur in vertical output stage
A. Low B+ supply to vertical output stage
B. Not proper adjustment of vertical size preset
C. Defective capacitor in series with the vertical deflection coil.
D. Defective vertical output transistors, biasing resistors and capacitors.
E. Dry soldering; copper print out
F. If IC is employed, compute pin voltages.
7. VERTICALLY NON LINEAR PICTURE; SOUND OK
A. NOT PROPER adjustment of vertical linearity preset
B. Dry soldering; copper print cut
C. Defective vertical output transistors and their biasing components
D. If IC is employed, calculate pin voltages.
E. At last replace the IC, if needed
8. VERTICAL KEYSTONE EFFECT
A. Partial short in vertical deflection coil
9. VERTICAL JITTER; SOUND OK
If picture jumps up and down, this type of effect is TERMED as Vertical jitter.
1. Not proper adjustment of V.Hold
2. Defective components in Integrator stage
3. Dry soldering; copper print cut.
9 (A) PICTURE UPSIDE DOWN; SOUND OK
A. Polarity reversed in connecting wires of vertical deflection coil.
10. PICTURE ROLLING FROM TOP TO BOTTOM OR BOTTOM TO TOP SOUND OK
This type of effect is also termed as vertical synchronize Loss. Very firstly, adjust vertical Hold.
If rolling of picture changes its direction....
Fault is in Integrator stage.
A. Defective capacitor or resistor in Integrator stage. .
B. Integrator stage might not receive the sync, pulses from the sync, separator.
If rolling of picture does not change its direction...
Error is in vertical oscillator.
A. test the vertical oscillator transistor, the biasing resistors and JV.Hold of it
B. If lC is employed, calculate pin voltages
C. Dry soldering; copper print cut
D. at last replaces the I.C, if needed.
