Introduction to Functions of AVC
1st function is it amplifies the voltage and current of the audio signal.
2nd function is it operates speaker.
3rd function is it enhances the fidelity of the receiver.
Audio section is divided as follows in the receivers:
1. Pre - Amplifier
2. Driver - Amplifier
3. Output Amplifier
PRE - AMPLIFER
It acts like first voltage amplifier. Output of the detector is provided to this amplifier. It amplifies the audio signal's voltage. The output of it is fed to drive stage.
DRIVER AMPLIFIER
It acts like second voltage amplifier. It is used among pre and output amplifiers. The AF signal is amplified by it and fed it to the output amplifier by driver amplifier.
TWO STAGE VOLTAGE AMPLIFIER
Two stage voltage amplifiers amplify the voltage of AF signal and therefore it is termed as voltage amplifier. Two stage voltage amplifiers is a RC coupled amplifier. AF signal is acquired by volume control and C1 (0.1 mfd) and feed to the base of Q1 . The base and collector bias voltages are supplied through R1 (1 Mega ohm ) and R2 (2.2 K) correspondingly. The AF signal amplified by Q1. The outcome is feed to the base of Q2 by C2 . The Q2's base and collector bias voltages are supplied through R3 (220 K) and primary of driver transformer correspondingly.Q2 amplifies the AF signal further. C4 (0.01 mfd) works like a high frequency filter that is also termed as tone correction capacitor. The second most of driver transformer is the input to the push pull output amplifier. C1 and C2 work like coupling capacitors
OUTPUT AMPLIFIER
Output amplifier is the last amplifier in audio section. Output amplifier amplifies the power of audio signal. Thus, it is termed as power amplifier. Output amplifier drives the speaker. AF output amplifier is categorized into two types.
i) Push pull amplifier using transformer
ii) Complementary symmetry amplifier.
PUSH - PULL AMPLIFIER
Push - pull amplifier is a single end push-pull amplifier. Within this stage two similar transistors are employed. To them two input signals are applied. A driver transformer is employed in input section of it. In the output part of this amplifier a speaker is employed. This speaker is attached by a capacitor. It is a hum free amplifier.
