Introduction to Cathode Ray Tube Biasing (CRT Biasing)
The cathode of the picture tube is delivered 80V (p-p) video signal. The tungsten filament is provided 6.3 V AC. Therefore cathode is not directly heated and produces a lot of electrons.
Control grid (G) is biased along with 0-50V DC, by brightness control. So variation in brightness is acquired. Brightness control is a variable resistor, the value of it being 470KD Accelerating grid (G,) is providing 150V DC. The velocity of electrons is accelerated by it. The focusing grid biased along with 100V, focuses the electron beam into center of the screen.
Final anode is biased along with 1800V DC. It assists to raise the speed of electrons. So the phosphor screen is illuminated to generate light. Interlaced scanning occurs through the horizontal and vertical deflection coils that are placed in the neck of the picture tube. Therefore full raster (light) is acquired. A spark gap capacitor (0.6pf/2KV) is employed in cathode and grids. It bypasses the arcing among the electrodes and guards the picture tube.
The capacitor that is earthed from G1 feds beam current even after the receiver being switched off to discharge EHT voltage and eliminates "switch off spot".
