Continuity Test

Introduction to Continuity Test

Continuity considers to being part of an entire or connected whole. In electrical applications, while an electrical circuit is able of conducting current, it illustrates electrical continuity. It is also termed to be "closed," since the circuit is complete. In the case of a light switch, for instance, the circuit is closed and able of conducting electricity while the switch is flipped to "on." The user can break the electrical continuity through flipping the switch to "off," opening the circuit and rendering it able of conducting electricity. In brief, through performing continuity test, we can ascertain the following

i) Presence of continuity in the electrical wiring circuit

ii) Presence of any open circuit in the circuit

iii) Presence of any short circuit in the circuit

Multimeter or Continuity test

Continuity testers are simple devices that are designed to confirm a complete electrical path by an object or circuit. They are particularly helpful for testing fuses of all types, light-bulbs, and wire paths.

This tester is generally comprised of:

A. Two leads

B. A small body where the leads meet and contain...

C. Some form of indicator

Some devices are manufactured to help consumers in testing electrical continuity, ranging from multi meters as displayed in the below diagram that have a wide range of additional applications, to simple electrical continuity testers which light up if electrical continuity is exist. These devices make use of two electrical probes that form a complete circuit while touched together. Consumers can check the device to make sure that it is working correctly via turning it on and touching the probes together - the meter must read 0, or the indicator light should turn on, pointing out a closed circuit. The metered device will read infinity, while the probes are not touching anything, showing that the circuit is open.
