Interphase

Interphase:

It is the phase in between two successive cell divisions during which the cell prepares itself for the procedure by synthesizing new proteins and nucleic acids. Chromosomes emerge as chromatin network. Interphase comprises of the following three sub phases.

i) G1 or Gap-1 Phase:

This phase begins instantly after cell division. The cell grows in size and there is synthesis of fresh proteins and RNA required for different metabolic activities of the cell. A non-dividing cell does not carry on beyond G1 Phase. The differentiating cells are stated to be in G0 phase.

ii) S-or Synthetic Phase:

During this phase there is duplication of DNA. Therefore each chromosome now is comprised of two sister chromatids.

iii) G2 or Gap-2 Phase:

The proteins answerable for the formation of spindle fibers are synthesized during this phase.
