Ringing experiment to explain downward translocation:
Take a plant and eliminate all the tissues outer to xylem and pith in the form of ring at any place on the stem. The part from where tissues are eliminated is sealed with melted wax. After 7 or 8 days the epidermis and cortex of upper part of the ring become very much swollen and from this swollen portion the adventitious roots emerge out. It takes place since the food material translocated from the leaves does not pass via the ring and is stored in the upper part.
