The diseases caused by action of own immune system of an individual is termed as autoimmune diseases. The autoimmune diseases emerge whenever the immune system forms antibodies or defense cells which attack cells, tissues and organs of own body. The attacked tissues or cells are wrongly identified as antigens by immune system. Rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus, vitiligo, pemphigus, type I diabetes mellitus, Crohn's disease (that is, chronic inflammation of the gut), Graves disease, myasthenia gravis, Hashimoto's disease, and so on are all examples of the autoimmune diseases.
