Acronym for Single In line Memory Module, a small circuit board that can hold a group of memory chips. Typically, SIMMs holds up to eight (on Macintoshes) or nine (on PCs) RAM chips. On personal computers the 9th chip is often utilized for parity error checking. Unlike memory chips, SIMMs is measured in bytes rather than bits. Now days this memory module is not used.
