What is pairing
Explain the term Pairing?
Expert
Pairing of the devices can launch the trusted relationship through learning, a shared secret termed as the ‘passkey’. A device which wants to communicate only with the trusted device may cryptographically validate the identity of other device. Trusted devices can also encrypt data which they exchange over air so that no one is able to listen in. The encryption may be turned off and passkeys are stored over the device’s file system and not the Bluetooth chip itself. As the Bluetooth address refers to the permanent a pairing will be preserved even if the Bluetooth name is altered. Pairs may be deleted during any time through either device. Devices will generally need the pairing or will prompt the owner before it enables a remote device to use any or most of its services. Some devices like Sony Ericsson phones will usually accept the OBEX business cards and notes without any pairing or prompts.
