Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications or DECT, also termed as Digital European Cordless Telephone till the year 1995, refers to an ETSI standard for the digital portable phones or cordless home telephones, generally used for the domestic or for the corporate purposes. It is identified by the ITU as fulfilling the IMT-2000 needs and hence qualifies as the 3G system. Within IMT-2000 group of technologies, DECT is consigned to as the the IMT-2000 Frequency Time (IMT-FT).
