What is Automated Voice Response or AVR

Automated Voice Response (AVR): Commonly abbreviated as AVRS is another word for the more general definition (interactive voice response). It is a computer telephony phone application and hardware which accepts voice input and or touch-phone keypad choice. An AVRS reacts to this input by giving suitable information in the form of a voice answer or gives a connection to a "live" operator. The other term for AVR is automated response unit, or ARU.

AVRS can as well be just one component of a bigger phone function which comprises database access.
