The axons of ganglion cells pass via the eye ball at posterior end form the optic nerve that enters cranial cavity. Thus this region of the retina lacks receptors and is not able to perceive the images that fall on it.
This region is termed as optic disc and when charting the field of vision. This is termed to as the blind spot.
