Both small scale datasets (e.g. mRNA from single genes) and large scale datasets (e.g. whole genomic sequence). Sequences are always listed in the 5’ to the 3’ direction.

Importantly, these databases include large quantities of experimentally derived data with provenance.

They contain data from many thousands of species but most data derive from model species (e.g. Homo sapiens, Caenorhabditis elegans, Mus musculus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Arabidopsis thaliana).
