Time-release or slow-release tablets are manufactured in such a manner that they liberate their contents in the digestive tract over time instead of all at once. This can be achieved by a variety of techniques. One technique is termed as "enteric coating," where the nutrient is coated with a substance which won't break down in the stomach however will in the small intestine. The other technique coats the nutrients with a substance which will be slowly digested, and hence the nutrients are gradually liberated. Both of such (and other) techniques can be helpful, however care must be exercised in the manufacturing procedure to make sure the desired outcomes.
