The compliance effort must infuse the company, extending to every organizational unit. A company’s official ethics compliance and enforcement mechanism can involve such actions as forming an ethics committee to provide guidance on ethics issues, appointing an ethics officer to head the committee to guide the compliance effort, establishing an ethics hotline or Web site that workers can use to either anonymously report a possible infringement or get confidential guidance on a troubling ethics-related condition, and having an annual ethics audit to calculate the extent of ethical behavior and identify problem regions.
