The feature which is added to the backlog is generally termed to as a story and has a particular suggested structure. The structure of a story is: ‘As I want to so that’. This is done in such a way that the development team can recognize the user, action and required result in a request and is a simple way of writing the requests which anyone can understand. Illustration: As a wiki user I want a tools menu on the edit screen so that I can simply apply font formatting.
Story is an independent, valuable, negotiable, estimatable, small, testable requirement (‘INVEST Acronym’). In spite of being independent that is, they have no direct dependencies with other requirements; stories might be clustered into epics when represented on the product roadmap or further down in backlog.
