A typical population growth curve (or number of individuals x time, linear scale) has a sigmoid shape. There is a short and slow preliminary growths followed by the fast and longer growth and again diminish in growth previous the stabilization or equilibrium stage.

The population growth according to biotic potential curve though is not sigmoid; it is only crescent shaped and points up to infinite value of scale (there is neither a decreasing stage nor equilibrium).
