Whenever there is low T3 and T4 secretion by the thyroid the TSH secretion by the hypothesis is very stimulated and the TSH blood level increases. The raise in the TSH availability promotes the swelling of the thyroid gland. The thyroid swelling is a reaction of a tissue that tries to recompense the functional insufficiency by making the gland increases its size.
