It employs the basic packet delivery services provided by UDP. The File Transfer Protocol (abbreviated as FTP) is the standard mechanism offered by TCP/IP for copying a file from one host to the other. It employs the services provided by TCP and therefore is reliable and secure. This establishes two connections (that is, virtual circuits) among hosts, one for data transfer, and the other for control information.
